Traditionally companies would just throw up an ad and allow hundreds of people to flock to it and just let the sales role in. Overtime, it became a point where they realized that there was more potential out there and it was called “word of the mouth”.
Have you ever went to social media to share a new coat you just bought? And then ended up with 10-20 comments of people asking where you got it? Affiliate Marketing was invented for just that reason, it empowers you to want to go out there and share the great products that you have used in the past, or at least have an understanding about.
What is Affiliate Marketing and How Does it Work Exactly?
Affiliate Marketing is a partnership you make with a company. They agree to pay you for selling their product. Typically, you think of a target website that you know has a bomb service you would to share.
For educational purposes, let’s incorporate Amazon into an example. At the button of their website, they have a button called “Become an Affiliate”
You click it to begin an 100% free process. By doing this, you get access to the thousands of products that are on their website. All you have to do is sort through the good and bad one’s then pick something you think will be a big seller.
A special tracking link is given to you. Each time a person clicks it, a 60-day cookie is attached to their browser, meaning that if they make a purchase within 2 months after clicking your link, you get a sale.
What makes it interesting is that even if they don’t buy exactly what you intended them, you still earn a commission. The way Amazon works it out is that by you getting them to their site in the first place, you played a role in any and every purchase they make in that time spand. Awesome, Right?
The Marketing Aspect – Putting Your Product in Front of People
Finding a product is always the easy part. It’s the part where you find your audience, these are the people who are going to pull out your credit card to purchase what your selling. You would think that all you have to do is post a couple of social media links and then your in the money?
Wrong. I think just about everyone thinks it;s that EASY when they first get started. Truth is you have to get down and dirty. What I mean is that it’s time to learn marketing techniques. The techniques are based around learning how to reach massive amounts of people.
Some common ways are included in the following list
- Run paid ads. Honestly, I thought all you had to do was throw money into a Facebook Ads account and I would make a return on investment with little to no knowledge. Truth is that I had to buy a couple of courses to understand what it takes to run ads that profit. Sadly no matter how much reading I did, it just didn’t work out.
- Free Traffic. Building online assets is what worked the best for me. Basically, I would sign up Instagram right. Do some ninja tactics involving me trying to figure out what my competition was doing. If I wanted to sell “weight loss pills” I’d just see what the biggest fitness page looked like and it would reveal how they were able to get millions of followers. My strategy would involve copying them and growing a huge page. I do this for all the big social media platforms. Funny thing is people think “FREE” is just a joke… You’d be surprised how big these pages can get and how much they can generate when done right.
But your learning wouldn’t stop there!
Landing Page Creation
So, you know how to apply for an affiliate program. You understand that you need traffic to generate sales but a missing element which is revolves around sales page.
I think most marketers strongly dislike this part. When it’s time to place your product on a page, it has to be pretty much perfect. Think about it. Your not going to buy a product if the sales page isn’t absolutely awesome!
